The Sellswords are mainly physical, so upping your physical defense will work pretty well for this battle. A single enemy is countered well by Hunter's Leghold Trap. BOSS - Vanessa Vanessa is accompanied by two Sellswords, who are protecting her weaknesses, so you will need to defeat them before you can start working on her shields. Try and adapt your strategy to counter what the boss does - if it's a mostly physical boss, Shackle Foe from Thief and P.Def buffs from e.g. Most chapter 2 bosses start introducing new mechanics that many later bosses will build off, which could include things like locking weaknesses or changing them around, increasing their shield gauge after breaking, or acting multiple times per turn. ![]() Profile Appearance Vanessa has dark-purple hair in the style of a ponytail. She is a fraud Apothecary who deliberately gives her patients medicine with harmful side-effects so that she can sell the remedy at premium prices. In boss fights, take out any adds first, and make sure you figure out what each boss is capable off. Vanessa Hysel is a character in Octopath Traveler. ![]() Check that you've gotten some better equipment, if you haven't unlocked subjobs yet then you'll want to do that (the game annoyingly never really hints at how this is done, the non-spoiler answer to how is go explore, the more specific answer to how is go out near chapter 2-3 towns and look for the Candelabra like icon on the minimap, they're shrines for subjobs, one near each Ch 2 town). Once you hit level 20, you'll get a lot more value out of subjobs, equipment and skills than grinding another 5-10 levels. So raising your level above 20 does very little for you, unless you were to grind basically up to like 27-30, which is very much overkill. Level ups are pretty weird in Octopath, they vary between giving lots of stats and giving almost none, and levels between 20 and 25 give minimal stat increases. ![]() Level 20 is generally fine for most, if not all, chapter 2's.
